Can you believe it’s already been seven years since Designated Survivor first aired and almost six years since the last episode was released? How time flies! The political thriller originally aired its first two seasons on ABC. When the show was canceled, it was one of the rare projects to get saved by Netflix!

The streaming service then picked up the drama for a third season, which served as its last. The story about  U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Thomas Kirkman’s rise to President of The United States still resonates with fans and new viewers alike.

As of April 12, 2023, the series is in the Netflix Top 10 Shows in the U.S. row, and we love to see that! Fans may be wondering what the cast is up to now. Well, we’ve got the answer for you below!

Before Designated Survivor, Kiefer Sutherland was known for his role as Jack Bauer in 24. He starred in multiple projects until the ABC/Netflix drama came along. Following the series, he appeared as Detective Clay Bryce in The Fugitive and played President Franklin D. Roosevelt in The First Lady.

Today, the 56-year-old actor’s most recent work is the lead role in the Paramount+ series Rabbit Hole. Since 2017, he has been engaged to model and actress Cindy Vela.

Natascha McElhone took on the role of Sutherland’s onscreen wife and First Lady of the United States. The British actress still does what she does best, appearing as a series regular on multiple projects, including The First, Hotel Portofino, and Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey in Halo.

On Netflix, her most recent role was Penelope Knatchbull, Lady Romsey in The Crown season 5. She is 51 years old. McElhone was married to Martin Hirigoyen Kelly until he passed away in May 2008 due to a dilated cardiomyopathy. The two have three sons together.

Mexican actor Adan Canto, 41, portrayed White House Chief of Staff member Aaron Shore. Following his fictional role in Washington D.C., the actor has only been in one television show since. And that’s Arman Morales in FOX’s The Cleaning Lady, which has been renewed for a third season.

However, he has done several films in the meantime, like 2 Hearts, Bruised, The Devil Below, and the 2022 production Agent Game. He is married to Stephanie Lindquist, and the couple has two children together.

Before we knew her as Special Advisor Emily Rhodes, Canadian actress Italia Ricci had many minor roles in shows like How I Met Your Mother, House, and Greek. Then, she received a main role in Chasing Life, a recurring role in Supergirl season 1, and finally, Designated Survivor came along!

The 36-year-old star’s most recent role was Dr. Sydney Burke on Netflix’s The Imperfects, which was canceled after one season. The actress is married to fellow actor Robbie Amell, and the two have one son together.

LaMonica Garrett has been busy since he portrayed Secret Service agent Mike Ritter! Following Designated Survivor, the actor has been in Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and 1883. His most recent work will be the leading role in the upcoming Paramount+ series Lioness. The 47-year-old actor is married to Mina Ivanova.

Taking on the role of Sutherland’s onscreen son was Tanner Buchanan. In the last few years, he’s appeared in Chance, the leading role in the Netflix movie He’s All That, and The Hyperions. On the television side of things, the 24-year-old currently portrays Robby Keene in Cobra Kai on Netflix. He has been dating actress Lizzie Broadway for a few years.

One Designated Survivor cast member with real-life White House experience is Kal Penn! During the Obama administration, the actor worked as a staff member in Washington, D.C. Onscreen, he played White House Press Secretary Seth Wright.

Since then, you’ll recognize him as Dr. Morgan Desai in Smile, Mac Marzara in American Horror Story: NYC, and most recently, the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses. The 45-year-old talent has been engaged to his boyfriend, Josh, since October 2021.

Following her role as Hannah Wells, actress Maggie Q chose to focus on movies more than television. You can see her in Fantasy Island, The Argument, Death of Me, The Protégé, and the film still in production, The Family Plan, starring opposite  Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan.

After Designated Survivor, the one series the 43-year-old starred in was FOX’s Pivoting opposite Ginnifer Goodwin and Eliza Coupe in 2022. However, the show was canceled after one season.

Chuck Russink, played by actor Jake Epstein, was the FBI agent who worked with Hannah. The 36-year-old later appeared as Brian Altman in Suits, Mr. Munder in The Hardy Boys, and joined the cast of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy season 3 as Alphonso Hargreeves/Sparrow Number Four.
