The Netflix original Selena: The Series  expanded on what movie watchers got glimpses of in the star-making film based on the life of music star Selena Quintanilla.

The series, which premiered some 25 years after Selena’s death, focuses on her rise with attention given to her siblings Suzette and A.B. andtheir father Abraham. Her story was split into separate parts, the first of which landed on Netflix on Dec. 4 2020 and while the second took center stage on May 4, 2021.

If you’re familiar with Selena’s story then you know it has a heartbreaking end. But has the Netflix series reached its natural conclusion?

Part 2 of Selena: The Series takes viewers through her marriage to her husband Chris Pérez, the lead guitarist of Selena y Los Dinos, as her career truly begins to pick up speed.

She’s on the verge of a potential crossover into the American pop scene, her dream of opening boutiques is being realized—the world is at her fingertips, even as tensions in her family continue to rise.

However, reaching this point in Selena’s story means that the series is careening toward the young star’s murder. She was killed by Yolanda Saldívar, Selena’s friend and manager of her boutiques.

Part 2 does cover Selena’s tragic death, which means Selena: The Series Part 3 is definitely not in the cards. The series concluding with the icon’s passing is fitting because it’s a part of her story, music history, and speaks to the impact her music and life had on pop culture and the fans who loved her.
