Leonardo Bonucci began his football career with the local Club, Viterbese. However, he was loaned to Inter Milan in the summer of 2005.

On 14 May 2006, Bonucci made his Serie A appearance in the last match of the 2005–06 season, in a 2–2 away draw against Cagliari. Impressed by his performance in the field, Inter Milan bought Bonucci on 7 July 2006.
