Prior to the widespread adoption of the automatic transmission, driving with both feet was fairly common. The accelerator or brake pedal was pressed with one foot, and the clutch was depressed with the other. Because the gas and brake pedals cannot be accidentally pressed, this configuration increases road safety.

You will be charged with reckless driving if it is discovered that your habit of driving with both feet is what caused the accident. It is also extremely risky to “idle” your foot over a pedal. We typically anchor one foot to determine how much force we should exert with the other by nature.

Is it illegal to drive with both feet?

In most states, it is acceptable to drive with both feet. But it’s not as secure as you might think. Make sure you only use one foot to operate the brake and accelerator if you are a new driver. Additionally, if you drive with both feet, you most likely won’t be allowed to finish the driving test.
