Before Fame

He earned his bachelor's degree in meteorology from Pennsylvania State University. He then went on to obtain his M.S. and PhD from the University of Chicago.

Trivia

He served as a professor in Penn State's Department of Meteorology from 1978 until his appointment to The Weather Channel in 1999. He has surveyed the damage paths of over 300 severe storms, including that of Hurricane Andrew.
