Blueface was born on January 20, 1997, in Los Angeles, California, U.S. On October 8, 2018, Blueface uploaded a music video for his song “Respect My Cryppin'” to WorldstarHipHop’s YouTube channel. Soon after, the song was shared on Twitter and quickly went viral. The success of the video helped Blueface’s other songs, such as “Thotiana” and “Next Big Thing,” gain newfound attention. Blueface following grew even more as he held a polling competition on his Instagram stories and posts to choose which high school he should visit, with Pasadena High School narrowly winning out over Santa Monica High School.

Blueface popularity increased as a result of the social media challenge, which attracted more followers. Blueface released videos of himself in the studio with Canadian rappers Drake and Quavo on his Instagram feed in November 2018, shortly after signing with Cash Money Records’ West Coast subsidiary Cash Money West.
